Did you know that there are two official languages spoken in the Cook Islands: English and Cook Islands Māori, also known as Rarotongan, which is spoken by over 20,000 people.
This week we have been learning some simple simple phrases and exploring the Cook Islands friendly culture.
We created some colourful lei to help us celebrate Cook Island Language Week! We were so proud of ourselves.
but Room 1 won’t be cold because we have brand new toasty warm jackets! Many thanks to Breakfast Club Kids who paid for the Glen Innes School logo. We are so lucky.
What’s your favourite piece of winter clothing to make you feel toasty warm despite the weather?
Mother’s Day is a special day to say thank you and to show love to all the different kinds of mums for how much they care for us.
These are a snapshot of the fabulous bouquets that Room 1 created for their mums in 2024.
Today we took a deep dive into ‘The Gruffalo’ with Mrs Donaldson. After reading the story together, we identified the characters and explored a range of activities. There were lots of opportunities to talk about the story and our favourite characters. Room 1 loved making the fox and the snake from the story!
Do you have a favourite story? We’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
Did you know today (29/02/2024) is a very special day? That’s because it’s a leap day. In Room 1 we were super excited because we got a whole extra day of summer!
A leap year only occurs every 4 years, so the next leap year will be in 2028.
How old will you be in the next leap year?
We decided that there is no better way to celebrate a leap day than by doing leap frog jumps!
We had lots of fun leap frogging around the playground.
During Term 1 we really enjoy exploring our topic, ‘All about me’. Check out the bright and colourful artwork that we created by completing a small self portrait using pencil (and vivid) and how we used coloured squares to create a pattern on our border. Did you know a pattern is simply a repeated decorative design? What patterns can you spot in our artwork and what colours would you use if you created your own pattern?
One of the students in Room 1 simply loves robots. He enjoys creating them and loves drawing them. Check out some of the different robots I have observed in the classroom already this term. I am super proud to support your passion project Tui!
This is our friend Tui. Tui came with us to Ambury Farm. Keijah wrote the song about Tui. Enjoy our movie and do not forget to leave a comment.
